MINIMUM WAGES ACT 1948

Applicability
Minimum Wages Act 1948 applies to India except Jammu and Kashmir.
The purpose of the Act is to provide for fixing minimum rates of wages in certain employments.
In this act, wages means all remuneration (whether by way of, allowance, or otherwise) expressed in terms of money or capacity but does not include bonus which does not form part of remuneration payable, the value of house accommodation, contribution to PF, traveling allowance, or gratuity.

Fixation of minimum wages
MinimAppropriate Government will fix minimum wages following the prescribed procedure. The fixed rate can be revised periodically. The speed can be fixed on a time work basis piece work basis a ‘guaranteed rate’ when the e is fix fixed on an ece work basis and an overtime rate. Minimum wages will be fixed after appointing a committee. Their proposals will be published by way of notification. After hearing representations, the rate of minimum wages will be notified
